The latest artist to join the ever growing guest list here at ICE 2015 is one of the most original and unique artists working in comics today…the one and only Andi Watson and we are very proud to be welcoming Andi to Birmingham this September. Andi Watson was born and raised in the north of England where he loved to draw and read books. It rained a lot. Upon graduating college he realised this was the perfect background for a cartoonist. He has created comics for grown ups and children and those somewhere in between. Occasionally he’s been nominated for awards (three Eisners, a Harvey, and a British Comics Awards). He works from home where he should buy fewer books or more bookshelves. He lives in Worcester with his wife and daughter. Check out his website at: www.andiwatson.info
We are very proud to announce that comic artist Jimmy Broxton will be making an exclusive appearance at this year’s Expo. So if you want to meet this elusive creator, ICE 2015 is the only convention this year you’ll be able to do so.
Jimmy Broxton is a graphic artist and designer who started drawing comics professionally in 2011, his first published work was for DC comics in New York. Since then he has worked for Dark Horse, IDW, Paper Films and Madefire to name but a few.
His principal works include: The Engine, a digital comic series for game changing visionaries Madefire in California, Pornland for paper Films, teaming up with Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray.
Most recently he once again worked with Palmiotti and Gray on the best selling adaption of Hugh Howey’s Sci-fi blockbuster WOOL, published by Jet City Comics/Amazon in association with Cryptazpoic.
Broxton has been nominated for Hugo awards for the last two years running, for Saucer Country with Paul Cornell from DC/Vertigo, and for “The girl who loved Doctor Who” again with Paul Cornell from IDW.
He is currently working on the continuing adventures of the Engine (written by Guy Adams) for Madefire and developing several creator owned projects.
Prolific superstar writer Andy Diggle is the latest creator to confirm for the year’s ICE. We at ICE Central are very happy to welcome Andy to Birmingham this year. Andy will be taking part in an exclusive writers panel and signing for fans.
A British comic-book writer and former editor of 2000AD Andy’s most most recent projects include THIEF OF THIEVES with Robert Kirkman at Skybound, UNCANNY and CONTROL at Dynamite, CAPTAIN AMERICA: LIVING LEGEND at Marvel, DOCTOR WHO at IDW Comics, and the creator-owned thriller SNAPSHOT with long time collaborator Jock.
Andy and Jock are best known for creating the Vertigo thriller THE LOSERS, which was adapted into a 2010 feature film starring Chris Evans, Zoe Saldana, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Idris Elba, and GREEN ARROW: YEAR ONE, which inspired the hit TV show ARROW.
Andy’s previous work includes the FBI thriller RAT CATCHER for Vertigo Crime; BATMAN, HELLBLAZER, SWAMP THING and ADAM STRANGE for DC Comics/Vertigo; DAREDEVIL, SHADOWLAND, THUNDERBOLTS, DARK REIGN: HAWKEYE and SIX GUNS for Marvel; Guy Ritchie’s GAMEKEEPER for Virgin Comics; BIONIC COMMANDO for Capcom; LENNY ZERO and SNOW/TIGER for 2000AD; and the epic sci-fi action thriller SILENT DRAGON with superstar artist Leinil Yu.
Primarily as a Guest Speaker at our sister event Comics Uncovered, the Watchmen and Kingsman artist and co creator DAVE GIBBONS will be making a very special appearance at ICE 2015.
Dave is unlikely to require an introduction to anyone who has even a passing interest in the comics form.
He has worked on renowned runs on classic titles such as 2000ad, Doctor Who and Green Lantern to his iconic and ground breaking work on Watchmen and then achieved incredible critical success on creator owned works such as his own The Originals, Give Me Liberty with Frank Miller and most recently with Mark Millar on Secret Service, which is now hitting cinemas as Kingsman. Dave Gibbons has proven over and over that he is one of the most consistently innovative and talented creators in the business, not just as an artist, but also as a writer.
Dave’s recent appointment as the first Comics Laureate means that he is now continuing to break new ground, not just as a creator but as an ambassador – Bridging the gap between the wonderful medium of comics and young readers.
And we’ll be celebrating this at ICE with a special Comics Uncovered for Juniors event hosted by Dave himself in which the Legendary artist passes on the benefit of his huge experience to young up and coming creators who may well become the next generation of superstar comic artists and writers.
More details of this exclusive event (which will be free to all children and young people attending ICE on the Saturday) will be revealed in the summer, so watch this space!!
